2009: A Year In Reveiw
by Web Admin posted 11/25/2009

2009 was an awesome year for Owatonna baseball.

Little League, which includes kids in 2nd - 5th grade and the U11 travelling team, had 300 participants.

Minor League, which includes kids in 6th - 9th grade, had 117 participants on 10 different teams in two leagues.

  • 6 of these teams competed in state tournaments during the summer
  • 2 teams were league champions for their age groups
  • 3 teams competed in league playoffs of which 2 where league champions
  • 94 players participated in the daytime baseball academy

Major League
which includes the high school teams had an exciting season.
  • High School Varsity became Section 1AAA Champs and earned a trip to the state tournament.
  • VFW won their first Summer Classic tournament and took 3rd place in sections
  • Legion also took third place in sections

Capital Improvements  It was also another successful year for improvements to Owatonna baseball facilities.  A state of the art hitting facility was completed at Manthey Park.  This could not have been done without the fundraising efforts of our youth and contributions by our sponsors.

The Huskies Bullpen Club would like to thank all of you for seeing the big picture and helping out in this endeavor.  In addition, we would like to send our gratitude to Owatonna Park & Recreation for their continued support.

The capital improvement committee has identified a list of other improvements we'll be working on over the coming years.  As a committee we have identified three major issues that need to be addressed:
  • field shortage
  • fix & enhance existing facilities
  • safety for players and fans
Our number one issue for the upcoming year is to address our field shortage.  There are two ways to accomplish this goal:
  • create additional fields
  • addition of lights to our current ballparks

Continued fundraising success plays a critical role in making this happen.

The Huskies Bullpen Club is committed to improving the baseball facilities in Owatonna.  If interested in helping with these efforts, please contact a board member to get involved.
