IF RELAY THROWS

Infield cut off men must be able to effectively use proper footwork to set themself up for a strong throw.
Group players in sets of three. Players should now form a line with approximately 90 feet in between each player. The middle player is working on proper footwork for short and long relays. Outside players, may work on tags and giving accurate throws to the middle cut off man. After 10 - 15 reps, the middle cut off man switches with an outside fielder. Repeat until all fielders have the opportunity as the middle fielder.
KEY POINTS
- Infielders must give a large target for the outfielders, raise your arms
- Infielders must communicate to the outfielders, yell - "Cut, Cut, Cut"
- Utilize proper footwork for a short or long relay
- Catch everything at your side without having to turn and throw
- Move with the ball towards the attended target
- Short hops - you must make a decision to go and get it or field it on the hop
SHORT RELAYS
- Set feet and make the throw
LONG RELAYS
- Utilize a shuffle step to gain arm strength
RELAY RACE
- Give the ball to the begining of the relay line. On whistle, you begin the relay race. You can race down and back (1 trip) or up to a different trip total. Good luck!
