Owatonna Travel Baseball Families,

The Huskies Bullpen Club has been meeting and doing our best to navigate the ever-changing landscape of information and guidelines for baseball this season. We have had two priorities in our conversations:

  • Keeping the safety and well-being of our players and families as the primary lens for all of our decision-making, and
  • Communicating accurate, clear information in a timely manner.

At our most recent Board meeting, a lengthy discussion resulted in the decision to cancel the tournament portion of our season that impacts home and away tournaments for all Minor League teams.  This includes the following teams: U11, U12, U13, U14, and U14/U15.

We had two primary reasons for making this decision.

1. Given the amount that we know (and don’t know) about the spread of the virus that causes Covid-19, gathering with large groups of people from multiple cities poses an increased, unacceptable risk for players and spectators.

2.  Because we have not had access to school or city fields for practicing and conditioning, tournament play poses an increased risk for injury—especially for our younger ballplayers.

The Board is keeping in close contact with state baseball sanctioning bodies as they develop and propose guidelines in coordination with state health organizations. At present, neither we nor the leagues in which we play have decided whether single opponent league play can be navigated safely.

We will keep you updated as circumstances merit. We will continue to provide updates via Facebook, Instagram, our website (owatonnabaseball.com), and email. Please feel free to contact any Board members with questions. We will continue to provide accurate information as quickly as we can.

Hope springs eternal!
