2020 EQUIPMENT Rules – Owatonna Baseball
1. Shoes
- 9 - 12 year olds will use molded cleats or tennis shoes.
- NO METAL SPIKES ALLOWED!
- 13-15 year olds will be allowed to use metal spikes.
Note: Some tournaments may not allow metal spikes to be used on their portable mounds.

2. Bats - The following pertains to the legality of bats in the MBL and South Central League
All ages – All bats must have the new USA stamp (unless using a -3 BBCOR bat or Wood bat). Bats with one-piece rubber grip and knob combination are ILLEGAL.
*The USA stamp is required for all Tournaments and for “AA” teams playing in the MBL league, as well as U13 & U14 "A" teams playing in the South Central League (this is new for 2020). This is not required for our U11 & U12 "A" teams in the South Central League.
MBL League (Owatonna "AA" teams):
- 9 - 13 year olds
- Bats must be 2 1/4" with unlimited weight differential; or
- Bats must be 2 3/8", 2 5/8", or 2 3/4" barrel and have a minus 11 differential or less (i.e. 31" length bat with 20 oz. weight = -11 differential)
- 14 year olds
- Bats must be 2 5/8" with -5 or less weight differential; or
- Can use -3 BBCOR bat; or wood bat
South Central League (Owatonna "A" teams):
- 9 - 12 year olds
- Bats with 2 1/4" barrel must have:
- The new 1.15 BPF OR the USA Bat approved stamp; or
- The old BPF 1.15 mark; or
- Be a wooden bat
- Bats with a barrel larger then 2 1/4" must have:
- The new 1.15 BPF OR the USA Bat approved stamp; or
- Have a BBCOR stamp; or
- Be a wooden bat
- 13 - 14 year olds
- Bats with 2 1/4" barrel must have:
- Must have the USABat stamp; or
- Be a wooden bat
- Bats with a barrel larger then 2 1/4" must have:
- Must have the USA Bat stamp; or
- Have a BBCOR stamp; or
- Be a wooden bat
*Note: When competing in weekend tournaments, all Owatonna "A" team bat rules will follow the MBL rules above, please keep this in mind if you are purchasing a new bat for your player.
